About this deal

Don't get me wrong, I really adored this book and I definitely don't regret reading it. It's just that I can't rate it any higher as most of the time I kept thinking: please, somebody just kill all this irritating characters already (not the main characters, of course) as they are annoyingly in the way of my beloved and awaited HEA. I guess when we get to think like that (repeatedly) we must admit the read just wasn't working as one could expect and things didn't develop as smoothly as one would want them to. I'm all about making the main character suffer a bit, but I think this was too much. I'll get straight to the point because if I don't say what I have to say now, I fear it will never be said. And I need to say it. She bumps into Bethany one day and the information of the baby gets passed on to Alex. In an impromptu visit, he comes down to see her. He asks Rosie if he can be Katie's Godfather. Rosie is visibly overwhelmed.

Pocas veces cerré un libro con la sensación que Love, Rosie me dejó en el pecho al hacerlo y por eso mismo no puedo insistir lo sufieciente en que le den una oportunidad. No se pierdan esta obra de arte. Bethany Williams: Alex's second wife. She was his first girlfriend in high school, but were reunited years later. They have a son named Theo. Rosie never liked her. What else can I say about Alex? Well, he's a good dad, a good uncle, and a good husband. He tried. You'll see it throughout the book. You'll love him more and more as you read through the series of messages. Collins and Claflin juggle the juxtaposition between carefree youth and life’s best-laid plans being thrown akimbo thanks largely to a sparkling and well-paced screenplay by Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls). At times it dips into the slightly bawdy, but it also creates moments of touching pathos among the litany of missed chances and miscommunications that the genre mandates.

This book will simultaneously make you laugh and cry. The characters are especially lovable and engaging, as they are each flawed and faced with struggle, making them ever more relatable and believable. This only results in emphasising the emotions felt whilst reading this rollercoaster book, which is similarly beautiful and tragic. I really loved Rosie, the main character who gave up her future when accidentally pregnant as a teenager. I felt that she portrayed a different kind of teen mother, and led me to question the stereotypes portrayed by the media today. She was also such a person, which may sound weird but when put into context is wonderful. Realistic and relatable characters are so unusual nowadays, that it was strangely refreshing to discover someone with whom you could shout alongside, not at.

Love, Rosie focuses on the lives of Rosie and Alex, best friends since childhood and torn tragically apart as teenagers when Alex's father gets a new job on the other side of the globe. Their friendship is tested by time and circumstance, and situations become even more difficult when love starts to tangle things up. It seems that denial and impossibility are overwhelming, but Rosie and Alex are faced with the decision of giving up everything for love, or living in silence for the rest of their separate lives. Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart have been best friends since they were four years old. Together they brave their school years, remaining an inseparable duo right up until they are eighteen. When Alex’s parents decide to move the family to Boston, Rosie is devastated that he is leaving her behind in Dublin with only one last year of school left to go. Now separated by the Atlantic Ocean, Rosie and Alex dutifully remain in touch, looking forward to their reunion. However, a delayed flight and an unfortunate school dance mean their plans are about to be put on hold.I don't want to say it was a waste of my time because it was enjoyable at points but I just wish it was better since I don't read contemporary novels often so I went out on a whim with this one and was disappointed. This book was...okay. It wasn't bad, it did make me laugh and giggle a bunch which saved this book for me! Although, there was a major downfall for me:

Greg Collins: A minor character in the book who marries Rosie. It soon becomes apparent that Greg is not right for Rosie and he is unfaithful to her.

Rosie's Parents - I absolutely adore the fact that Cecelia wrote about them, however small it was. I almost died on the inside when her father passed, then Rosie received the letter from him. I definitely teared up and kept asking myself, ' WHY ARE YOU EVEN CRYING?! IT'S JUST A LETTER!' *Proceeds to weep into book* Rosie and Alex has been best friends ever since they could remember. They've been through a lot. They hade their fair share of happy, sad, and mostly embarassing moments at school, even arguments actually (Rosie got really upset when Alex didn't invite her to his birthday.. That was hilarious). I love that quote - I really do. But seriously, how many years of mistakes did it take them to even realize they were perfect together??? moaning about girlfriends and boyfriends, wishing we were older and wiser and out of school, dreaming for a life where we wouldn’t have double maths

The worst thing about Love, Rosie was the way that Alex treated women all the way through this book. There was never really a lot of love between them and I always thought that they were seen as being disposable or to fit a purpose in his life. I just didn’t think that he was all that and I definitely wouldn’t be interested in him if I had known everything he had put his families through. Katie and Toby were the spitting images of Rosie and Alex... their unconditional love knew no bounds and nothing would tore them apart. The movie didn’t really stray away from the overall plot of the book but I just really liked how the book went! If you’ve read the book before watching the movie, I think you’d be a tad bit disappointed with the movie but if you’ve never read the book and you decide that you will watch the movie, I think you’ll enjoy it! The movie is undoubtedly funny and sweet but the book is 3x better than the movie ever could be. Mrs. Julie Casey: Also known as "Mrs. Big Nose Smelly Breath Casey" by Rosie and Alex. Towards the middle of the story Rosie, after quitting her job, goes to work at her old primary school as a receptionist and the two become friends. So the reason I am refraining from rating the book is NOT because I didn't like it, it's because I don't think it's fair to rate a book 1 star because of a romance plot (even though that's the whole book), but I'm not rating the book 5 stars when I didn't like the main storyline. So if you're looking for a decision whether to read this or not, I leave you with all of that information and you can decide what to do with it. Ruby: Ruby is best friends with Rosie after they meet working in an office for a stationery company. Ruby is always on hand to offer Rosie advice when she is unsure of her feelings in life and love. Again, Rosie, you're just not stretching far enough. I'm right here. Always have been, always will be. Greg finds the letter and hides it from Rosie. When Rosie goes to work, she finds out that Greg has booked a bridal suite and assumes it is for their anniversary celebrations. However, she discovers Greg's meandering ways and that he has been cheating on her. She punches him and Greg is out of her and Katie's life.
